This is also about 75% the Lincoln Park Pub’s fault, for having the ten dollar minimum which violates credit and debit card regulations. THERE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A MINIMUM PURCHASE AMOUNT!!!!!

While I am also incensed by credit card minimums, 75% seems a little much.

Spotted at a Cleveland goodwill
ETA: at least this guy was trying to do us all a favor and wear a hat announcing it, right?

Cuyahoga County Juvenile Judge Alison Floyd has backed away from a court order forcing juvenile victims in several sexual assault cases to take polygraph examinations.
Floyd had ordered three juveniles to take the exams earlier this year after she found the teen boys accused of attacking them delinquent — the juvenile court equivalent of guilty.
Victims, sexual assault advocates and prosecutors all objected. None of the victims complied with the order to take the tests.

FYI this is how we like to treat sexual assault victims in Cleveland.

The Daily Dish reader thinks abuse of girls happens less because girls have less sustained contact with priests, and it’s also possible that this lack of contact makes abuse of multiple female victims more difficult. However, the reader’s comments do reveal an interesting dichotomy: the girl-abuser is sad, pathetic, and fucked-up, while the boy-abuser is evil. Might this idea permeate the Church, and might it stem at least in part from the idea that homosexuality is itself a sin, and that gay men are naturally predatory and depraved? One Slate commenter thinks so, writing, “[T]he reason they focus so closely on the male victims is that then the church can (very, very wrongly) claim that homosexuality, not pedophilia, is the true sin in this situation.” But the true sin, of course, is abusing a position of trust to harm children — and this is no less wrong when the victim is female.

Advice that counsels women to give up the things the people consider normal, ordinary parts of social life is not really advice, is it? The goal is not to get women to take perfect precautions. In fact, men get very bent out of shape when women do treat them as potential rapists. No, the goal of putting the focus on the woman’s conduct is to make sure that when it happens again, the excuse is in place. “She didn’t X!” they can say. She did it wrong, they can say. And then, they always say, “I’m not saying she deserved to be raped, BUT …” You can ignore the rest. The bolded part is the point of the exercise.

There are adequate programs in place, and the last thing we need is a redundant program that uses our tax dollars superfluously. The Victims need to step out to the plate and do what they need to do to help themselves, and no amount of money spent can accomplish that!

AnimalLover2 commenting on Cleveland Councilwoman Dona Brady says city needs to form family center for victims of rape, domestic violence

AnimalLover2 is seriously workin’ overtime on the victim blaming comments. Clearly women aren’t of the same value as animals? I’m glad this is what we’re all getting out of this Anthony Sowell case.

So, the woman that makes ten rape reports a year should be taken as seriously as a TRUE VICTIM?
Buyer’s remorse, the guilt after making a bad decision isn’t rape. Getting so stoned that one makes a bad choice and wakes up going, “What did I do?!” isn’t rape.
There are women that will report rape to “get even” with someone, and then he is labelled a sex offender because she was mad at him and manipulated the system. Prostitutes that do not get paid report that they were raped.
I heard of a woman reported a rape retroactively just so she could get a free abortion.
Many of these so-called hapless marginalized victims sure know how to manipulate the system when the purpose serves them.
The people who try and do manipulate the system take away valuable resources from the people that actually need them~THE TRUE VICTIMS~ and in doing so punish all of the victims by creating an air of skepticism. I wish some of these “marginalized” persons would put their creative energies towards something constructive and contribute to society instead of seeing how much they can take and how much they can get over on the system.

One thing is certain about Plain Dealer commenters, and that is that they never fail to bring the bullshit. Misogyny, xenophobia, racism, classism, etc included as applicable.

See, if you rape a child who looks like a child, the problem is you. If you rape a child who looks like a woman, the problem is that women are just so damn sexy! It’s just a natural attraction that you didn’t regulate, you wicked thing. We don’t condone it, tsk-tsk and all that — but really, did you see the cans on her? What were you supposed to do?

Have you tried not being so sexy? [via]

Well, what did she expect, getting drunk like that?” isn’t salt in the wound, it is the foundation of the problem. The idea that if a woman is not actively preventing a man from sticking his penis into her (and even then, if she’s an enemy), he is doing nothing wrong, and hey, who can blame him, IS THE PROBLEM.

The epistemological asymmetry of the laws that govern rape, for instance, privileges at the same time men and ignorance: inasmuch as it matters not at all what the raped woman perceives or wants just so long as the man raping her can claim not to have noticed (ignorance in which male sexuality receives careful education).
