So, Glenn, we’re guessing that’s why you’re so afraid of us. We don’t fit neatly into your black-and-white formula. You simply borrow some of the best ideas from our 150-year-old anti-authoritarian tradition. We take those same ideas and not only run with them, but improve on them. We follow the logic to its ethical conclusion. And we include corporate media moguls like you in our Hall of Infamy.
But we’re reasonable folk. We understand that you find it scary to think about what will happen when ordinary people realize that they actually have the power to make their own decisions and take control of their own lives. So, here’s what we suggest:
Just admit you’re afraid of us. Admit that your passionate and convoluted rants are a nervous dance around your inability to support real freedom (anarchism) over unbridled power (Communism and capitalism). And then use your massive wealth and power for the forces of good.

An Open Letter to Glenn Beck [via]

THIS IS SO GOOD..

Well, there’s a push to push this HR 2499. I see it as part of a four pronged plan that I see to really change the environment here in the United States of America. Amnesty for people who are here illegally, voting rights for criminals and felons. They wanted D.C. voting rights, something, got this little thing called the Second Amendment got in the way. They weren’t willing to put it forward, but they certainly wanted to do something I believe was unconstitutional and give Washington D.C. voting rights. And now this 2499, which is the Puerto Rico statehood bill which is being pushed by the new progressive party in Puerto Rico trying to create a federally sanctioned; that is, a U.S. sanctioned vote that they say is nonbinding but would give them the legitimacy to then come back and try to seat people in the United States congress.

Congressman Jason Chaffetzof Utah, Glenn Beck: The 51st State?

Idk if y’all subscribe to Glenn Beck’s email newsletter (which, uh, I definitely do because I am really into talk radio as an institution) but I thought this discussion was kind of interesting.  I have become really interested in PR over the last few months and I am intrigued both by this discussion and HR 2499.

Honestly, having read the whole thing, I can’t even see why anyone in the United States would be upset about PR wanting to be a state (if they even want to be a state) unless the prob is more brown people who can vote for national reps and president.

New favorite Glenn Beck thing

the idea that a lack of footnotes in an academic book denote a lack of rigorous scholarship.  I don’t know about anybody else, but I always judge realness by the quantity of footnotes.

Not to imply that I think that scholarship is only able to be legitimately critiqued by academics, but come onnnn. It seems like you might want to have a familiarity with appropriate/normative style before you start acting like style invalidates something.

New ways of avoiding my reading

looking up the poorly cited sources glenn beck uses in his Revolutionary Holocaust…Live free or die (which was replayed tonight)

Maybe I spend an excessive amount of time watching/listening to glenn beck but I’m totally fascinated about the way he constructs/uses history. Its an especially effective tactic in the United States where we (and by we I guess I mean my fellow privileged americans) are very opposed to the idea that there is something besides a one true history, or the idea that there may be several interpretations of events without all but one of those being wrong. Because when people disagree obv someone has to be lying in service of a sinister agenda.

So I've been watching Glenn Beck again lately

  • me: " Glenn mentioned the Woody Guthrie classic American hit song on TV last night, and so many people were shocked to learn that this song is actually communist propaganda. Glenn goes over the words to the song, and once your brain stops mindlessly singing and actually processing the lyrics, it's quite shocking. For good measure, Glenn also reads the 'American' classic 'Born in the U.S.A' lyrics by Springsteen. What do the songs actually mean? Glenn explains on radio today."
  • ryan: hahaha
  • me: how are these people so stupid ryan
  • me: idk like i was shocked that "the internationale" was socialist
  • me: like i was horrified WHO KNEW
  • ryan: i know quinn its nuts
  • me: and come on, this land is your land? next we';ll be finding out that there is a radical history to solidarity forever
  • ryan: ha
  • me: or you know
  • me: the rest of woody guthries catalog
  • me: or you know
  • me: the rest of bruce springsteens catalog
  • me: iidk have these people ever heard bruce springsteen or woody guthrie?

paradigm - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Glenn Beck (bc, oh yes, I am watching Fox News coverage of the 9/12 rallies) needs to stop using ‘paradigm’ in a way that doesn’t make any sense. Like, there are words for what you mean Glenn. It just isn’t paradigm. Plus you are just encouraging me to be a snob by being irritated about it.

(posted with tweetshots.com)I have been kind of bent out of shape lately about the way glenn beck is discussed in the non-conservative media. Most of the stuff they pick out to make fun of (yeah, you keith olbermann, you give me serious second-hand embarrassment) is not the craziest/weirdest stuff he says. Idk, maybe i spend too much time consuming glenn beck’s media products that i now feel like i have to interject and explain context as well as his larger argument. Also, in reference to the twittering at hand, does glenn beck know anything about agriculture in this country? Also from watching his show last night, it appears that glenn beck/michelle malkin are not familiar with the black panther party and thus think van jones was doing original maoist shit in oakland as opposed to just rehashing.

Glenn Beck (truth: I watch this show/listen to his radio show on the regular) ‘exposing’ Van Jones, aka Communists are infiltrating the White House. Now with even more large/terrifying pictures of his giant floating face.

Seriously I cannot listen to Glenn Beck misunderstand the differences between different facets of radical thought ENOUGH. All the time I spent bickering with communists, and no one even knows the difference between us? Disheartening.

Additional Thoughts:
1. He decided he would stay at Yale Law. LIke Yale Law is a place you just accidentally end up and resign yourself to.
2. ‘Police Watch’
3. I didn’t realize that ANYONE actually thought Mumia Abu-Jamal was guilty. I guess that shows what kind of lunatics I have been hanging around with.

Other mailing lists I am on. Except I definitely, definitely signed up for this one. Glenn Beck is my favorite thing on the radio.
