The process through which news and science are created are so incompatible. Journalism is so focused on WOW NEW NEWS NEW TRUTHS and the final word on almost all medical (especially epidemiological) research seems to be that this requires further study. It seems like it just leads to people getting burnt out on health research because journalists make it seem like scientists can’t make up their minds.
I'm an 24 year old woman who works in various aspects of biomedical research, and is currently a grad student in Medical Anthropology & Public Health. I'm from Lansing, MI & currently live in Cleveland, OH. This is just a collection of things I think are neat.
A general overview of 'things I think are neat':abandonment/the post-industrial midwest, anarchism (syndicalism, insurrectionalism, etc), race/ethnicity (esp. defining/constructing the boundaries of whiteness), gender, class (talking/thinking about class generally seems to be an underrated activity), health care (access to, the experience of obtaining, etc), art, science fiction, punk music, conservative talk radio and anthropology (which probably incorporates almost everything else about people).
